You May Have Noticed This Blog is Inactive

Hello everyone,

About a year ago, I stopped posting Heathen Problems. A wave of drama broke out, and I dropped everything because I didn’t have the energy to keep fighting. I should have been more upfront about it at the time, but now I can say it with certainty: This blog is closed.

When I first made this site, I promised to post any “problem” that was not in violation of the rules, whether or not I agreed with it. This seemed like the only way to create an unbiased space for people to vent. Unfortunately, many people mistook every problem for my problem, when this was clearly not the case. Every opinion expressed here was conflated with my opinion, and a few times people demanded that I answer for things I had posted that I didn’t agree with in the first place.

I considered only posting views with which I agree, but that didn’t seem fair. I don’t think this blog would continue to serve its purpose if I cut out every problem I find somewhat silly, or a bit untrue, or can’t support in an argument. This wasn’t meant to be “Lokavinr’s Heathen Problems,” after all.

So I’ve decided the only thing I can do is to stop accepting submissions. I will leave what we have here, because I know people still use them. But there will not be any new Heathen Problems from this point forward.

I also have received a lot of general heathen questions through this blog. If you have a general question, please submit it to my personal blog: Lokavinr. Thanks!

If you want to see my personal altar in its many evolutions, it’s here. Here is one me and my kindred set up a few weeks ago for our blót to Freyja.

Anonymous said: Hi there! I'm no pagan but I do like to learn about other religious views besides from mine (Christianity). My question is how do you feel about Christians? Most of the people I ask would tell me that they hate it with a passion and that they'd love to annihilate most of us. Also, how do you feel about some of the Neo-nazi pagans? As a person with darker skin it seems a little discouraging

Hello anon! I answered this question on my personal blog here.

Anon, I am going to strongly discourage you from using the blank rune in rune casting. It has no historical basis, and leads to problems like the one described here.

Heathen Problem #197: When you face conflict in the Ásatrú community about your choice to honor Loki and the only advice anyone offers you is to “just convert to Northern Tradition Paganism”

Hahahah.

So, I don’t feel like I can make this one because it expresses potential spoilers, but I still wanted to put it out there (appropriately tagged) because it definitely gave me a good laugh.

Any thoughts from the community on whether or not I should say Hel to it and formally publish this submission?
